Ordnance Survey maps in the SHINE web site

The interactive maps in the SHINE web site include base mapping from Ordnance Survey, including the 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 colour maps and the 1:10,000 black and white maps (all under licence from Natural England).

We are serving these maps from a super-fast cache, to provide good performance with large numbers of users. However it is possible there may be gaps in the coverage... if you find any areas with blank base maps, please note the location and let us know. Thanks!

Crispin Flower

A SHINEing Example

SHINE enhancement is currently underway in more than 30 Historic Environment Records across England, through the 'SHINE2012' grant scheme, which is being managed by Natural England. As a result, many HERs now have over 1,000 SHINE records, covering a wide range of archaeological features that can be managed under Environmental Stewardship. Take a look at the SHINE Progress map to see how your area compares!

Victoria Hunns NE
